Looking Ahead: Upcoming Project Milestones
The project team continues to make progress toward redevelopment and is preparing to submit permit applications to the City of Alexandria in July 2026. Following a bond closing in December 2026, the full financial closing is currently anticipated in the first quarter of 2027, and construction is expected to begin shortly thereafter. Upon completion, currently projected for the fourth quarter of 2028, Ladrey will provide 159 units of deeply affordable housing, attractive residential amenities, and a safe and comfortable environment for all residents.

June 18, 2026: Meeting with ARHA Redevelopment Working Group
The development team presented a project update to the ARHA Redevelopment Working Group, highlighting recent financing milestones, ongoing design and planning efforts, resident engagement activities, and the anticipated development schedule. Community stakeholders and Working Group members were provided with an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the next phases of the redevelopment process. June 15, 2026: Tax-Exempt Bond Approval
The Ladrey redevelopment project received approval for tax-exempt bond financing from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). This approval represents another significant step toward securing the project's capital stack and positions the development team to continue advancing predevelopment activities as we work toward closing and construction.
April 23, 2026: Low-Income Housing Tax Credits Awarded
We are pleased to announce that the Ladrey redevelopment project was awarded 4% Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTCs) by Virginia Housing. This important financing milestone advances the project toward redevelopment and supports the creation of high-quality affordable housing for Alexandria residents. The award reflects the continued commitment of the development team and our public partners to preserving and expanding affordable housing opportunities in the community.
Feb 22, 2026: Storm Notice
Please be advised that the community meetings scheduled for Monday, February 23, and Tuesday, February 24, have been canceled for public safety reasons due to impending Nor'easter. The meetings will be rescheduled in the near future and neighbors will be notified as soon as new meeting dates are set. Thank you for your understanding and for your interest in the project.
Feb 11, 2026: Resident Meeting at The Alate
The development team hosted a well-attended resident engagement meeting at The Alate on February 11, 2026, to provide relocated Ladrey residents with an update on project progress and gather input on future interior design elements.
Dinner was provided, after which residents had the opportunity to review presentation boards prepared by Hord Coplan Macht and share their preferences through an interactive voting exercise.

November 18, 2025
The development team responsible for the Ladrey rehabilitation effort is preparing to win final approval for the project’s proposed design and construction plan from the City of Alexandria in December 2025. The team plans to seek public and private financing for the modernization effort during 2026.
If everything goes according to plan, work on the rehabilitation will begin in late 2026 and be completed in 2027.
